In Ancient times, there was a period of which great wonder prowled the earth, without sense of closure, defeat, weakness or seize. Though many more were without the sense of mortality in their lives, so great were these beings that even the Gods stopped to swallow their pride for just a moment in their presence, and wonder how these beings were able to be.
These were the Wyrms, or Dragons by the common tongue. These cascading creatures of beauty and perfection were the children of Alabaster himself, God of Luck, Chance, and Pride, whom in his decision to create the representation of himselfs as the other Gods did, was blinded by his own nature, and made beings far too able than any other in the known world.
This perfection was not without its price however, for Dragons were Immortal, unable to face destruction from their direct line to their Deity. One Dragon in particular, the first-born of Alabaster himself, proved too powerful for the rest of the world to face, and took advantage of this reality openly and with vilegance. The younger Wyrms did see this capability in their elder, and thus followed and mimicked without pause, conquering most of the known world without trouble, and forcing the mortal races below them into submission.
It was then that the Goddess of Generosity, Saffron, did offer a solution to her kin - One that was fair and just for all, seeing that if there was no other solution to be found, the world would surely be cast out of balance by these great and terrifying beasts.
“Let us make all our creations mortal.” She offered to the others. “Let no being stand too tall above another, that they might all have an equal chance at life, and that all that is good in the world be preserved.”
The idea came to a vote, and by majority, Generosity’s proposal did win out.
The Elves and the Fae, who had lived at the sidelines without a care to the rest of the world’s troubles, found themselves able to die and be destroyed, the Elves themselves no longer able to live past a single millenia.
The Dragons were made to no longer be completely impervious to the elements, weapons and time itself, the nature of Death made apparent to them, and thus the Wyrms fell back in their constant conquest, limiting themselves to much more humble levels of existence.
For the God’s direct children themselves, the horrors and creatures produced by their combined powers, they found themselves able to be sundered by the power of steel and magics; However, Umbris, who was in charge of Death and its domain, quickly rejected these beings back to the mortal plane to reform themselves, their divine touch too prominent for him to accent them into his ranks.
And so there was peace for a time, mortality made mostly equal for the life of the world.
